2013/05/022013/06/30 FEHB Aetna HDHP/HSA Cost Update – April Can a Federal Employee save money by switching his family of four to a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) / Health Savings Account (HSA)? Here’s another follow-up. Due to either my ineptitude or Aetna’s confusing prescription drug price calculator, my family is about $200 deeper in to health care costs YTD than at this point last year with Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS). Doctor and pharmacist visits for the month of April bring the 2013 Aenta YTD total to $2414, versus $2267 with BCBS (basic) during the same time period in 2012. Other FEHB Aetna HDHP/HSA Notes: Premium pass-through (rebate) of $125 posted mid-month (April 12th). No visits to the dentist this month. Stand by for rough seas- We’re filling an expensive prescription this week that will drain our HSA balance down to zero 🙁 4 months in to 2013 and we’re nearly 2/3 of the way through our deductible ($1,900 spent in network out of a $3,000 HDHP deductible)- Again, hopefully there’s a light at the end of this tunnel and the benefits will soon kick in.
